The Little Apples Foundation, under Jenni Clark, has been working in Weenen, Kwa-Zulu Natal, with teachers and children in ECD programs and Foundation Phase. In February a team of practitioners from Zoe-Life were introduced to Six Bricks and they took this tool to crèches and schools in the area. The teams have been doing Six Bricks in 4 schools once a week, specifically with the Grade R’s and the Grade ones. Classes are big, but with each child having their own set of bricks, the program has been successful. All teaching is conducted in Zulu and it has been amazing to witness the improvement in the children's grasp of colours and memory skills. A lot of patterning activities, which is really fun with large groups, has also been part of the program.
Little Apples supports the TREE Playgroup program and two homework clubs are also operational in the area. These clubs are held at the TREE toy library and the children love the Six Bricks activities. They are done at least twice a week, along with English activities. Jenni is also reaching out to parents and held a Six Brick activity workshop to encourage parents to play with their children.
